Surabaya Tour

Today, September II 2018, we are all going to have Surabaya tour. We all started preparing early in the morning because the van will pick us up at 7:00 a.m. Our first destination is called House of Sampoerna. It takes approximately 50 minutes to get there. House of Sampoerna is a museum of cigarette owned by Liem Seeng Tee. “Sampoerna” itself means perfection. The building has two floor, where the first floor is the museum which displays kinds of tobacco, the process of making and packing cigarretes, and also the history of Sampoerna’s family, the founder of Sampoerna cigarrete factory. As we get to the second floor, we can observe the actual process of packing cigarrete by the workers from another room downstairs, though we are not allowed to take any pictures. Not only a museum, this place also provides a cafe beside the building and also a souvenir shop. Luckily, this museum provides a guide that takes us around the building and helps explaining things. We went to the souvenir shop and bought some cute souvenirs to be brought back home to Czech. The second place that we visited is the Bank Museum nearby House of Sampoerna. It was really fun as we got to know various Indonesia’s paper money and coins from time to time. We were guided by a man who explained all of the old machines used in bank to count money.

What’s interesting is the building isn’t provided by any air conditioners but all the rooms stay cool because there is a flow of water that runs underneath all the rooms in the museum. It is a traditional way to cool down rooms in Dutch colonial era. It was finally time to attend Airlangga Global Day where all the international students of Airlangga University gather. There was food bazaar with several stalls that sell food and beverage from different parts of Asia, like Thailand, India, and Myanmar. We could enjoy the performance of Reog Ponorogo and Kuda Lumping performed by Airlangga students. Not only did they offer performances, they also asked us to play fun games along with the other international students from other countries. Good news is we were the second winner of the game! We received a really big prize, and it was all snacks. Yay to that, we could eat all we want! It was almost 3:00 p.m. when we arrived at the submarine monument, still in Surabaya. By only paying Rp. 15.000, we could already enter the place and take a look inside a real big submarine. It is a monument so we don’t need to actually go deep into the sea. We were very excited because it was our first time being inside a submarine and observing the machine. At the end, we saw a documentary film of submarine history and how Indonesian naval army dealt with territorial issues under the sea.

Bahasa Indonesia

img

Language is a typical symbol of a country or region, because language is a vital element in communicating or as the main communication tool. In interacting, social relationships with others in the community, everyone needs language. Language is very diverse in this world, because each country has their own language that is different from each other, even language can distinguish between one country and another. The Indonesian state uses Indonesian as a common or primary language in a country, in contrast to an American country that uses English in a state. So, language can also be a characteristic of a country.

The Indonesian state which consists of many islands or regions has a variety of different languages for each island and region which are called regional languages. This regional language is used in non-formal terms, in the sense of interacting with fellow citizens in one area. Whereas in formal events using Indonesian as the language of the speakers, because the Indonesian language that was acknowledged and agreed upon by the Indonesian people in the Youth Pledge was Indonesian.
Indonesian as a national language, which functions as a communication tool has the role of delivering information. Language truth will affect the truth of the information conveyed. Various phenomena that have a negative impact on the truth of the language adjusted to the rules, in this case speak Indonesian well and correctly.
Constraints that must be avoided in the use of standard language are partly due to the existence of language symptoms such as interference, integration, code mixing, code switching and slang language which is unwittingly often used in official communication. This causes the language used to be bad. Slang language is one ofthe branches

of Indonesian as a language for association. This term began to appear in the late 1980s. At that time slang was known as the language of the bastards or street children due to the meaning of the word prokem in association as thugs. In connection with the increasingly widespread use of slang used by some modern societies, the need for action from all parties concerned about the existence of Indonesian language which is national language, unity language, and the language of instruction in the world of education. On Saturday, students from Czech Republic received Indonesian language material from speakers from Trunojoyo Madura University lecturers, Ibu Darul, Shahrul and Bu Indah. They teach Indonesian from letters, numbers to reading and conversations and are closed with games. They were enthusiastic about the material and according to one of them that Indonesian was unique but difficult for them because it was the first time they had studied.

Barbecue time is a great choice for this Sunday morning to get to know each volunteer and Czech student better, since we would spend the whole following month together. In Indonesia, barbecue party is also common. People do it for fun or to celebrate a special event like new year’s eve or someone’s birthday. In Madura, barbecue is done by roasting fish instead of meat, because a lot of Madurese are fishermen. Not only fish, we also got to taste delicious roasted tempe and sausage with peanut sauce. We were very confused at first to see the volunteers mashing all the fried peanuts with a traditional tool that they called ‘cobek’ and ‘ulekan’, which we don’t have in Czech. ‘Cobek’ is the size of a plate made out of soil, and ‘ulekan’ is a smashing tool made out of stone or a light wood. Lastly, soya sauce was blended with the soft mixture of peanuts and seasonings.
